Greek Festival 2006
The Greek
Festival was a great event, and fun for the whole family. The event was covered
by Brian, Travis, Renee, Stephani, and Jeff and held in Calgary. Everyone had
their favourite thing about the festival. Some of the providers were invited to
learn how to do traditional Greek dancing and spent some time on the dance
floor, while others ate a lot of baklava. There were lots of fun things for
kids to do, including balloon animals and face-painting. The balloon artist
created ‘Bubbles the IAS EMS fish’ and he now sits proudly in the office covered
in bandages and an oxygen mask.
There were
only a few minor injuries to deal with, so IAS staff kept busy playing with
children, and providing sun screen for those playing outside. The big
excitement happened when a motor vehicle collision occurred up the street and
Travis and Renee responded to it. They were first on the scene with their
equipment, as it sounded like a serious accident. Calgary Fire and EMS
responded quickly and everything turned out fine, with handshakes all around.
We were all
struck by how friendly, outgoing, and welcoming the organizers were. It was a
fantastic introduction for some of us to the Hellenic culture and tradition. If
anyone is looking for something to do with their family next summer, we
recommend dropping by the Greek festival. The people are wonderful and the food
is out of this world! What a lot of fun!
