Pengrowth Hoedown 2006
When IAS was
booked for a ‘backyard party’ we wondered why EMS would be required until we
arrived. ‘Backyard party’ took on a whole new meaning with so many people in
attendance (1000+).
The big save
of the day occurred when Brian saved a young kid from heat stroke... By ‘kid’ we
mean goat!
There was a
petting zoo on the premises, and the IAS guys happened to notice one of the baby
goats was distressed. After examination, it was determined the little guy was
suffering from heatstroke. He was tachycardic, dry, hyperventilating and
listless. After performing ABCs and placing the goat in the shade, IAS
administered fluids and electrolytes much to the confusion of the crowd. The
goat made a full recovery, as you can see from the pictures. One person
commented, “Wow! You save animals, too?” It wouldn’t be the first time, nor
the last.
The IAS team
met some interesting people, including country singer Beverly Mahood and
comedian Mike Bullard. Miss Calgary and Miss Sun and Salsa were also in
attendance, along with Kim Mitchell and Randy Bachman from BTO. We thank
everyone for giving us permission to post their photos. It was great to meet
them and we consider them as wonderful people to know.
A freak storm
sailed in and tried to dampen the event, to no avail. The IAS team was given
new shirts to wear while uniforms dried, and two children were treated for
hypothermia as the temperature plummeted from 35 degrees to 10. ( Celsius, not
Fahrenheit).
The IAS team
was impressed by the organization of the event and noticed that everyone enjoyed
themselves immensely. It is a tribute to Pengrowth that everyone showed such
friendliness and generosity. Thanks for having us, and thanks for the shirts!
